Carpenter Brut Synthwave DJ Sets

I'm not a fan of the iconography this guy is using (it really doesn't mesh with his Hotline Miami / Synthwave dance sound), but Carpenter Brut's mixsets are quite good:

Pearl White - White EP

This came across my SoundCloud dashboard this morning, and it's wonderful.

Pearl White difficult to peg what genre it is, and it's all the better for it. I'm hearing some elements of trance, trap, and various other electronic dance genres - but it also has some pitch-shifted vocals and spooky synth happening (mixed with urban-dance vocals? ok!) that remind me of Purity Ring, or random Witchouse bands--minus the "triple-clap" sound.

The general vibe is a multi-genre, futuristic distopian background music. Some of that might come from how the EP is mixed together into a single set:

Support the artist by buying the EP (no minimum price, currently) via Bandcamp.

Another album with a similar vibe (but far more ambient-dance) was reposted on the Pearl White SoundCloud called Heavy Hearts - Archaic.

T∆TT - Summer of '86 Mix (July 1st edit)

Something unusual: An edit I made of an existing live mix by TATT.

I listened to the (excellent) original mix x8+ while driving around during the Canada Day (July 1st) long weekend.

The edited set is the same as the original, but does have a few small edits, and 3+ songs cleanly removed from the mix (Cassette Club - Don't Go, Plastiscines - Barcelona (Lifelike Remix), etc) to make it more dance oriented. It's a testament to TATT's live mixing skills that the songs and beat blend as well as they do.

In addition to streamlining the mix, I've added an edited version of Tim Mills - Eclipse of the Sun (Arthur Deep's Tokyo Sunset remix) to the end of the set. Enjoy.

Check out the original mix and tracklist here.

Setlist:

Synthetix's Top 80's Inspired Synth tracks of 2012

Track listing from Synthetix's post:

Memorex : Video Remix of your memories

Came across this through Boing-Boing.net:   Memorex from Smash TV.

The music is a mix of vintage audio, expertly mixed with modern retrowave/synthwave/chillwave tracks, with found footage from the 1980s/1990s edited to match.

"The audio provides a perfect accompaniment to the warped and weirdly nostalgic footage, like finding your favorite cassette from childhood after it’s been baking in the sun for 25 years. An authentic audio/visual package, Memorex was designed to look and feel like the real deal. The ultimate VHS tape.
Is it a lost cultural relic, melted to the dash of an '83 Nissan Sentra? Is it a sinister government experiment, designed to brainwash children into becoming consumer slaves?
Is it the pinnacle of blipverts, sent back in time from 20 minutes into the future? Is it the holy grail of unlabeled VHS tapes, tucked away in the back room of an abandoned Blockbuster?
Is it live, or is it Memorex?
We didn't create your childhood, we just organized it for you. How to brainwash an entire generation. OBEY. CONSUME. THIS IS YOUR GOD."

Watching this super-cut presentation pop culture detritus, and knowing that it (subliminally) structured my childhood causes both nostalgia and horror.

M83 - Couleurs (DJ Blayne's edit) MP3 Download

I took the photo above in a nightclub in Gwanju, South Korea. It seemed like an appropriate header for this track. A friend requested a single MP3 of the M83 - Couleurs edit/remix I did for an earlier mixtape. It's only 2:48 long, but it gets to the heart of those synthy riffs.
