S U R VI V E - RR7349 singles

The band behind the soundtrack to Netflix 'Stranger Things' is releasing a new album on Sept 30th 2016, and have some amazing dark, driving synthy tracks available for listening.

I'll be certain to get their album once it's available on Bandcamp, but I'm hoping for a release of that amazing looking cover art too.

Music that reminds me of the dreams my childhood self had of the distant future: how the past remembers the future has been a preoccupation of mine artistically. I'm happy to see series like Stranger Things give a musical platform to modern acts like SURVIVE for that reason.

Check out the io9 article for more information about their upcoming (US) tour.

Telefon Tel Aviv - Lengthening Shadows (Unmixed) and beyond

A track from the post-Charles Cooper-era Telefon Tel Aviv I somehow missed hearing:

Telefon Tel Aviv - Lengthening Shadows (Unmixed)

Lyrics were posted here:

My bones have wasted away
and I've withered like the weeds
It's gone, my life, it's gone

It's interesting the direction Telefon Tel Aviv's remaining half has moved in. I was disappointed with the various remixes that followed TTV's "Immolate Yourself" album / Cooper's passing -- they just lacked the ethereal gravity I loved in their 2009 release.

However, Joshua Eustis (the other half of the band) seems to have carved out an interesting future following that shakeup:

Case in point, Eustis' Darkwave-Industrial-Synthpop(?) project Sons of Magdalene, and his latest release "Move to Pain":

Pearl White - White EP

This came across my SoundCloud dashboard this morning, and it's wonderful.

Pearl White difficult to peg what genre it is, and it's all the better for it. I'm hearing some elements of trance, trap, and various other electronic dance genres - but it also has some pitch-shifted vocals and spooky synth happening (mixed with urban-dance vocals? ok!) that remind me of Purity Ring, or random Witchouse bands--minus the "triple-clap" sound.

The general vibe is a multi-genre, futuristic distopian background music. Some of that might come from how the EP is mixed together into a single set:

Support the artist by buying the EP (no minimum price, currently) via Bandcamp.

Another album with a similar vibe (but far more ambient-dance) was reposted on the Pearl White SoundCloud called Heavy Hearts - Archaic.

Tobacco - Friends Music DVDs 1 and 2

Years ago, I came across the music artist Tobacco at a tiny Toronto record store. I bought the last copy of a CD of his (right out of the CD player), but haven't heard it in a while.

I was pleased to find out some vintage footage was mixed into 30 minute long mixes of some of his music. It's well worth watching, and unlike anything except Apex Twin:
